The geopolitical landscape is changing rapidly. The term \u2018turning point\u2019<\/strong> has already been coined in connection with Russia’s war against Ukraine, but what we are now experiencing is a turning point 2.0<\/strong>. This development not only affects Europe’s security architecture, but also the economic and social order on a global level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia and Europe: a new reality<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The war in Ukraine has irrevocably changed relations between Russia and Europe. Economic sanctions, energy embargoes and military armament characterise the new relationship. Russia is increasingly looking for alternatives in the global South, while Europe is freeing itself from its dependence on Russian energy. This separation is leading to a strategic reorientation on both sides, with long-term consequences for trade, diplomacy and security policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turning point 2.0: multipolarity on the rise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Western-dominated world order is beginning to falter. While Europe and the USA remain close partners, there are also tensions and diverging interests that are influencing the transatlantic course. At the same time, other powers such as China, India and the Middle East are gaining influence. BRICS states are establishing themselves as economic counterweights to the West and are pushing for a multipolar world order. In this new power structure, it remains to be seen whether established institutions such as the UN, the G7 or the WTO will continue to set the rules or whether alternative alliances will set new standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What effects can we expect on the economy and society?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The economic consequences of the turning point 2.0 are already being felt. De-globalisation is gathering pace, supply chains are being restructured and the race for raw materials and technological sovereignty is intensifying. Companies are having to adjust to geopolitical risks, while states are focussing more on economic sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Socially, we are also experiencing a turning point. The days of economic peace in Europe are over and people are feeling the effects of rising prices, uncertainty on the labour markets and new geopolitical tensions. At the same time, we are experiencing a technological revolution with artificial intelligence and green innovations that offer both opportunities and challenges for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite all the challenges, the turnaround 2.0 also offers great opportunities.
