Positive error culture: between desire and reality<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Most companies want employees who take responsibility, make courageous decisions and break new ground. But what happens when mistakes are made? What constitutes a positive error culture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A genuine, constructive error culture is based on three fundamental principles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Transparency and openness:<\/strong> Errors are not concealed, but openly addressed \u2013 regardless of hierarchy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. No blame:<\/strong> The aim is not to \u2018get someone\u2019, but to understand the causes and avoid future errors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Psychological safety: <\/strong>Employees must feel confident that they can admit their mistakes and talk about them without fear of negative consequences.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Psychological safety<\/strong>, a concept developed by Harvard professor Amy Edmondson, is particularly important here: only those who feel safe will be brave enough to try new things \u2013 and thus enable innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Why a culture of error is decisive for corporate success<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    In an accelerating world, standing still means falling behind. If you don’t try anything, you can’t learn anything. But innovation arises where mistakes are understood as part of the process. Whether it’s penicillin, Scotch tape or the ice lolly \u2013 many groundbreaking ideas owe their existence to a mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A learning organisation recognises this potential. It creates spaces for exchange, e.g. through formats such as Brandl’s \u2018campfire circle\u2019, where people talk openly about their own mistakes.
