If I don&#8217;t go along with it, he immediately threatens to go to the competition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many salespeople are familiar with this game. What starts as a small favor quickly becomes a habit. The discount, which was supposed to build trust, destroys it in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-discounts-are-like-sugar\">Why discounts are like sugar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A discount feels like a sweet reward to customers. But as with sugar, the question quickly arises: \u201cWhat about next time?\u201d \u2013 expectations rise, the effect diminishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of building genuine loyalty, the following happens:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Customers get used to discounts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The full price suddenly seems excessive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The actual value proposition takes a back seat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end, price becomes a constant battle \u2013 and the relationship crumbles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Loyalty does not come from discounts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>True customer loyalty is not created through price, but through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reliability \u2013 the customer knows where they stand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Added value \u2013 the product or service solves real problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Honesty \u2013 no hide-and-seek, but clear communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Discounts, on the other hand, are like a band-aid: soothing in the short term, but not a solution in the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Insights from my work as a speaker and trainer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my lectures and seminars, I encourage salespeople to break the cycle of discounts. Instead of giving in reflexively, we work together to learn how to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Defend prices with pride and confidence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use clear language to influence purchasing decisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Build customer relationships based on trust rather than discounts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The result? Salespeople who talk less about discounts and more about value. Customers who stay not because of the price, but because of the partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conclusion: Discounts make you weak \u2013 value makes you strong.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discounts are addictive, but they don&#8217;t create loyalty. Loyalty arises when salespeople have the courage to stand by their price \u2013 and when customers feel that this provider is worth the money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a speaker, I inspire people to take exactly this path.
