She was just a fifteen year-old girl and went to stay with relatives in China while her family stayed in North Korea. She began a life in hiding as an illegal alien, always in fear that she could be trapped in China and that her and her family would incur the punishments of the government authorities – involving imprisonment, torture, possible public execution.
