Ann Cathrin Riedel is a writer and expert on government modernisation, digital sovereignty and geopolitics. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her work addresses a shift that affects politics and business alike: technology has long ceased to be mere infrastructure or a tool, and increasingly determines who is dependent, who sets the standards and who remains capable of acting when it matters. Riedel asks what this means for states and companies \u2013 and for trust in democratic institutions when the state itself cannot act with digital sovereignty. As Managing Director of NExT e. V., she works on the modernisation of German public administration. A state capable of acting digitally is, in her view, not an administrative matter but a question of competitiveness, sovereignty and democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is in demand as a speaker and panellist both nationally and internationally. In 2026 she spoke at the invitation of the United Nations at UN Open Source Week at UN Headquarters in New York, where questions of digital public infrastructure, technological independence and international cooperation converge. At Germany’s Digital Summit in 2023 she was one of two experts invited to discuss artificial intelligence with the Federal Chancellor and members of the federal cabinet. At the GovTech Campus she debated the digital policy challenges facing Germany, Estonia and Europe with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Estonian President Alar Karis. She is regularly appointed as an expert witness before the German Bundestag and state parliaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
