Jan Berger is all about the future. The future of healthcare, the transformation of the world of work and about Artificial Intelligence, without which a future is hardly possible. What do possible future business models look like and what is the “new normal” of tomorrow? Jan Berger devotes his lectures to precisely this topic and gets to the bottom of the questions of how principles of work, organization and management are changing and which ethical principles can form the basis of new models.
Interview with futurologist Jan Berger:
1. What are the core subjects of your keynote speeches?
My speeches address how businesses can cope with uncertainty about the future. I do not have a “standard” speech, rather every client gets the speech that he/she is interested in – be it the future of work, health, mobility, logistics, the European economy, IT, ethical standards in Artificial Intelligence, financial services, food, etc. My speeches are based on scientific futures research in those areas and branches of industry where my thinktank, Themis Foresight, is actively involved. The most important purpose of my keynotes to rid business leaders of their fear of the unknown and to instill them with a sense of joy to take their future into their own hands. I will give impulses on how businesses will earn their wealth still 15 years from now.
2. Which audiance or which branch do you reach with your speech?
My keynotes are directed at business leaders in finance, mobility, logistics, health, energy, ICT, food and retail.
3. Are you a PREMIUM SPEAKER? Where do you get your insights from?
I consider myself a premium speaker, not only because of years of experience speaking at conferences or in board meetings, but primarily, because my audience is “premium” – mainly executives in multinational or large corporations. Very often, I end up sparring with them in smaller, or private one-on-one settings. I’m a foresight professional of over ten years of experience and have worked in corporate and startup surroundings before becoming a founder myself. The scientific futures research of my thinktank Themis Foresight is my main source of knowledge when it comes to addressing future business topics in-depth. My experience of having worked with corporate executives on business innovation or having provided answers to their strategic questions give me the ability to speak their language.
4. What will be in the future? Does «time» play an important role in your work?
“The” future deosn’t exist. There are many futures. To identify the right future for a business, to shape it and to steer towards it, this is the task of leadership. Future is not a collection of trends. Future doesn’t happen by accident, either. And not everything that is technologically possible will be accepted by society. “Time” and “perseverance” are both important factors in our work. Great innovation takes time, achieving one’s goals takes perseverance. But more important in our line of business is the critical analysis of desirable, possible and probable futures and design options, as well as their preconditions in the presence and the past. We strive to separate fact from fiction, just like ancient Greek goddess Themis did. This is why she has become the name-patron of my business.
5. Tell us your life motto? What do you want to give your listeners to take with them?
“You understand the world only to the extent that you’re trying to change it!”
Thank you, Jan Berger, for the interview and the brief insight into what the audience can look forward to in your presentations.
