Before it’s too late! That’s why Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen wants to devote himself to the planetary emergency with immediate effect.
German entertainer, book author, medical doctor and moderator Eckart von Hirschhausen is leaving the show stage to devote himself entirely to climate protection. This news will have surprised some, after all, von Hirschhausen was not only a popular cabaret artist and with depth, but he seemed to enjoy his profession. The physician von Hirschhausen was one of the first, which brought the topic health in humorous way to a broad mass. Hardly anyone has such a savvy way with words, finds such original images and comparisons that even complex relationships suddenly become clear and obvious. The story of the penguin, for example, which seems to be of little use on land and only grows to its true size when it lands in the right environment, the water. Then he becomes agile and lightning-fast and a real star.
Climate protection now, before it’s too late
From now on, Eckart von Hirschhausen will devote himself entirely to the topic of climate protection, because he considers it to be the most urgent issue facing the planet. Without climate protection soon no more planet earth, one could say.
In an interview with the Hessenschau, he explains his radical decision thus: “It is actually a question of capacity. If I now realize that we have a planetary emergency, then it would be a failure to help as a doctor, not to take care of the most important problem with the highest priority. In stagecraft, I only reach the people who came and bought a ticket.”
The media star reaches many people through radio and television channels and his newly launched YouTube channel who are not yet aware of the urgency to act. “When the world is saved, I’ll come right back on stage and start fooling around again,” says von Hirschhausen with his mischievous smile, where you can never be quite sure if he’s really serious.
Eckart von Hirschhausen – New book, new topic: “Man, Earth! We could have it so nice”
In his latest book, “Mensch, Erde! We could have it so nice” he wants to enlighten without falling into helpless shock in view of the current world situation. He says: “”The main thing that helps against powerlessness is: get off your ass, get involved, open your mouth – and get smart beforehand. Please keep to this order!”
Even if Eckart von Hirschhausen has changed thematically, he remains true to the stage. As an accomplished key note speaker and moderator, he seems to playfully manage to humorously mix up even the not at all funny climate change. After his key notes, everyone is very aware of the urgency to act, but it feels easier, as if it can be done.
That is probably the real talent of the 55-year-old Frankfurt native: He knows how to bring the most serious topics to people in a humorous way so that, despite all gravity, they become solvable. Even so, everyone seems to be intrinsically motivated to start change in front of their doorstep.
Lust for the future: Fear paralyzes, humor unites
Eckart von Hirschhausen wants to whet people’s appetites for the future, and he succeeds: “Fear paralyzes. Humor connects. You can despair, go crazy or laugh about the current state of the world – and join forces. That’s exactly what it takes right now.”
Asked about being afraid of the dramatic consequences if the world misses the 1.5 degree target, he explains, “Yes, of course I’m afraid. But that’s a bad guide. We have everything to lose that makes for a good life. And at the same time, we have a lot to gain. A green, car-free inner city, where I can get from A to B by bike without stress, is a gain in quality of life. Eating a plant-based diet is a gain in lifespan – and a “give up” on heart attacks and strokes. The research is there, the solutions are there – we just need to get it done really quickly now and show what is already possible today. If we’re always claiming we’re the smartest species on the planet, we should stop destroying our own home.”
Humorous key notes with depth: These are the topics
In his humorously rousing key notes, Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen talks topically about what the global crises of today mean for the health of each individual or about the “co-benefits” of a climate-friendly lifestyle for health. Eating less meat and cycling more, for example, is good for both the body and the earth.
