Mitri Sirin: Popular German TV presenter, journalist and ambassador at Childaid Network
Charismatic, cosmopolitan, cheerful, as always in a good mood, competent, down-to-earth, serious and likeable – the list of compliments is long when it comes to German TV presenter Mitri Sirin, who is currently the main presenter of the ZDF 7 p.m. “heute” news in Germany.
Mitri Sirin does a good job, he is a real popular figure on German television. Even mishaps are generously forgiven. Under a video published on YouTube, in which the popular presenter allowed himself two small slip-ups, a lady left the comment: “Mitri Sirin, you’re doing a super job and come across worlds better than on your long-running Morningshow. Respect how you embody competence, down-to-earthness and seriousness. You have earned this airtime. Keep it up! Please also with such small sympathetic “breakdowns”. Mitri Sirin is a German television presenter and journalist. He is of Turkish-Syrian descent, his parents belonged to the Christian minority in Turkey and emigrated to Germany in 1960. Mitri Sirin, now 51, was born in Rheine and grew up in the Münsterland region, both in Germany.
Career start and development: from radio to television
His career began as a presenter on the VOX television station’s “Saturday” magazine, followed by numerous radio presenting jobs. In 2005, Sirin moved to rbb, where he hosted the 9:45 p.m. edition of the news magazine “rbb Aktuell. He also worked as a reporter during the 2006 soccer World Cup. On rbb radio, Sirin hosted the program “Süpermercado” and was part of a hip-hop fun combo. Mitri Sirin worked for Westdeutscher Rundfunk for two years and presented “Lokalzeit” from Duisburg until 2009.
Since 2009 he has been working for the public TV station ZDF, at the beginning as a newscaster for the “heute” news in the morning magazine and as a presenter of the “ZDFwochen-journal”, two years later Mitri Sirin took over the presentation of the early shift of the “ZDF-Morgenmagazin”, in 2013 he became the “Anchorman” of the “ZDF-Morgenmagazin”.
Serious journalism meets cosmopolitan, positive charisma
On “Wie geht’s Deutschland?” Mitri Sirin hosted alongside well-known moderator Marietta Slomka before the 2013 federal elections, and in the spring before the 2014 European elections his own travel report “Wie geht’s Europa?” was broadcasted, shortly followed by the live forum on the 2014 European elections in Berlin, which he hosted with German moderator Maybrit Illner.
In 2021, Sirin made his debut as anchorman of the “ZDF-Mittagsmagazin,” on which he has since appeared as a substitute every now and then; in the same year, he became the main anchorman of the ZDF 7 p.m. “heute” news.
Mitri Sirin volunteers as an ambassador for the children’s charity Childaid Network, campaigning for education and children’s rights.
