Annalena Baerbock was born in Hanover in 1980, studied political science at the University of Hamburg, and earned a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics—one of the world’s most prestigious law programs. What followed was a political career that, over the course of a little more than two decades, took her from state politics in Brandenburg to the pinnacle of global diplomacy.
From 2013 to 2025, she served as a member of the German Bundestag; from 2018 to 2022, she was co-chair of the Green Party; and from December 2021 to May 2025, she served as Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs—the first woman to hold this office in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany. Three turbulent years during which the world has rarely been more turbulent: Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the Middle East conflict, and the realignment of transatlantic relations. UN Secretary-General António Guterres described her vision as “an inspiring rallying cry for today’s world”—and pledged his full support to her.
