Prof. Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, Head of Space at ETH Zurich, has joined the Microsoft AI Tour 2025 in Zurich as closing keynote speaker. From Space to Switzerland and Back: The Role of AI in Exploration and Innovation.

- ETH Zurich is aiming to build the world’s best Master’s program in space science and technology. How do AI and digital innovation fit into this vision?
- Real-time judgments are required based on data unavailable on Earth, such as radiation impacts on spacecraft or transient events observed by scientific instruments.
- Prolonged communication blackouts necessitate AI-driven models and autonomous decision-making. AI is integrated in a rudimentary way to assist with decision-making.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, Dr. Z., is the Leader of ETH Zürich Space. He was Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA from 2016 to 2022. Previously Professor of Space Science and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan.
He is also the Founder of the largest Entrepreneurship programme at American Universities – the Michigan Center for Entrepreneurship – and a member of the International Academy of Astronautics.
