Bruno Baumann is a documentary filmmaker and director, author, border crosser and extreme explorer.
As a modern explorer, he has made a name for himself worldwide – among other things, through the first solo crossing of the Gobi Desert and spectacular expeditions to the Himalayas. He combines his discoveries, such as the remains of a legendary kingdom in Sutley Canyon, with profound insights into personal and entrepreneurial development. In more than a dozen books and numerous award-winning TV documentaries, he recounts his extreme experiences, visions and the power to make the impossible possible. In his lectures, he applies insights from extreme situations to key issues of our time: change, resilience, teamwork, leadership and sustainable action.
With impressive images and a strong presence, he captivates his audience – and inspires them to leave their comfort zone in order to realise their full potential.
Interview with Bruno Baumann
1. What are the core subjects of your keynote speeches?
My lectures focus on the key challenges and opportunities that people and companies face in a dynamic world. The focus is on dealing constructively with change – not as a threat, but as an opportunity for further development and adaptation to constantly changing conditions. I show how innovation, risk and security can be balanced in the ‘zone of challenge’ in order to make sustainable decisions.
Another focus is the quality of collaboration: synergy is more than just cooperation – it arises through targeted team development. I highlight how teams need to be structured and what personalities and skills are required to realise their full potential. Motivation is the key here – genuine enthusiasm is the ‘mountain-moving’ force that grows out of a vision. Visions create meaning and orientation and promote commitment to jointly defined goals.
I also address modern leadership skills in increasingly complex environments and the responsible use of resources. This also involves the ability to act innovatively, solution-oriented and responsibly in everyday business life.
2. Which audiance or which branch do you reach with your speech?
- Managers in companies
- Kick-off events for employees
- Managing directors and executives
- Customer events
3. Are you a PREMIUM SPEAKER? Where do you get your insights from?
My knowledge and insights result from my own experiences of exposure to extreme nature, especially in the desert, being forced to cross borders from the comfort zone into the zone of challenge, from the known into the unknown. This requires similar qualities to those needed to achieve entrepreneurial success in the dynamic modern economy. Many transfers can be derived from this.
In addition, there are valuable transfers, particularly in regard to the team development process. I went with various groups of managers into the desert. The experiences of those managers who have deliberately exposed themselves to the “desert” challenge zone under my leadership are an important part of my lessons.
4. What will be in the future? Does «time» play an important role in your work?
The ´future´ is created by the action in the present. Mindfulness, i.e. the quality of the next step, is important. In my case, it´s about reading the signs in nature, interpreting them correctly and reacting quickly. In this respect ‘time’ plays an important role, especially in the desert where the vital resource of water is limited and consumed by every breath.
This also applies to the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and managers. Here, too, it is important to recognise weak signals from the market, interpret them correctly, react quickly, develop a creative strategy and implement it powerfully.
5. Tell us your life motto? What do you want to give your listeners to take with them?
Change is the only constant.
Accept the dynamic basic principle of life.
Daring the seemingly impossible to achieve the possible.
The principle in the desert is: if you don´t move, you die. Applied to personal and professional challenges: if you are not prepared to keep learning and are not open to new experiences, you will not achieve your goals.
