Dr. F. Roman Szeliga, Austria’s first and only expert for humor

31. January 2017 – Katharina Schlangenotto

Trust him, he is a doctor! This is what a participant wrote as recommendation after she had seen Roman F. Szeliga on stage. For sure, his no ordinary speaker. It seems that his talent of combining humor and seriousness, which only a few master on the stage, was set in place with his birth.

A charming therapy plan for the future against digital disease

The naming of his lectures alone is a joy. In “Morbus Digitalis” he takes his audience amusingly into the future digital world and warns, albeit humorously, of letting us completely into its spell.

“We live in the digital age,” he says. “But we should bring back more humanity into our lives.” For him, this means cultivating a human relationship and communicating things humanly so that people are able to understand.

He adds: “If we want to exploit the economic potential in Europe, we need reliable entrepreneurs who see digitization as an opportunity. We need to create the space for personal, emotional communication, trust and proximity.”

From experience, he can confirm that empathy, ease, joy, personality and the right dose of humor create more customer benefits and closer customer loyalty. This, however, requires a different way of thinking beyond the beaten tracks. The daily, valued get to gether  should always be the focus of a development.

The art of positive thinking

Some people, he says, would take a pessimistic view on everything. But, the good news is that the attitude towards joy can be trained and that it is actually possible to learn how to interpret things positively.

In this context, he refers to the result of a study saying that 87 per cent of all fears an average person faces during life will in fact never occur. Really incisive events in life like job loss, separation or death of a close relative occur four or five times on average. However, many people would live in fear of these unlikely events in life most of the time – and therefore miss so many beautiful moments in life.

Beware of the energy vampires

“If you long for  a positive attitude, you should store positive experiences from the past and bring them back to the mind’s eye in bad moments”, he advises.

It would also be important to be surrounded by the right people. We should rather be aware of the so called “energy vampires”, who in fact do not draw blood but still a lot of energy. He suggests to choose friends and people carefully with a conscious mind.

Change of perspective without finger-wagging

In his lectures, Dr. Roman Szeliga provides impulses for daily communication and emotional “swabs”, prescribes humorous “ointments” and occasionally sets small, pointed “needles” that hit the nerve of our times.

He is a doctor and manager, moderator, seminar leader, lecturer, word acrobat, author and above all a very humorous man. “Humor best complements competency. Humor is not just a performance of the mind, it is a lifestyle,” he concludes.

There are about 280 well-known companies on his customer listing and Roman Szeliga is undoubtedly one of the best speakers in the German-speaking world. In 2013 he was awarded the “Top Speaker of the Year Award” by the renowned magazine TRAiNiNG.
