Very few Spanish women have the privilege of being included in Fortune magazine’s list of the 50 most influential leaders in the world. Isabel Aguilera is one of them.

She is also one of the top 25 senior managers in Europe, according to the Financial Times, and was one of the 100 most influential people in Spain in 2006, according to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo. Aguilera is thus a woman who enjoys the highest professional recognition worldwide. She is also president of the Social Council of the University of Seville.

In 2001, the Wall Street Journal, one of the most important financial newspapers in the world, named Aguilera one of the 30 most influential businesswomen in Europe: she had led the computer company Dell to market leadership and the company achieved the largest trading volume in its sector, thanks to the incredible results achieved in Spain.

From 2002 to 2005, in her role as Chief Operating Officer of NH Hotels, Isabel Aguilera examined every last detail of the company’s 237 hotels and 34,000 hotel rooms in 18 countries.

Aguilera achieved that after the purchase of the Mexican, Dutch and German hotel companies, all operating models were integrated into a unified operating model in record time. She created and implemented a savings programme that brought savings of 38 million euros by the end of 2004 thanks to synergies. This sum far exceeded the original target.

Before joining NH Hotels, Isabel Aguilera was CEO at Dell and Director of the Spain, Italy and Portugal division. Under her leadership, Dell improved its market position in Europe, moving from ninth to first place in Spain. Aguilera also held positions of responsibility in sales and marketing at Olivetti PC, Airtel Movil (Vodafone) and Hewlett-Packard.

In 2006, she combined her position as CEO of Google Iberia with her work as an independent consultant. Until 2009, Aguilera was also President of General Electric Spain and Portugal.

Today, she brings her 20 years of experience in marketing and business management to the following roles: she is president of Twindocs, a member of the executive board of the leading Spanish IT company Indra and a member of the remuneration committee of the international education group Laureate Education Inc. A tireless businesswoman and individualist, Aguilera holds a degree in architecture, an MBA from IE Business School and a PDG (General Management Program) from IESE Business School.
