From above: Premium Speaker Bertrand Piccard flies around the world in a solar plane

With this mission, the adventurer and environmental activist Piccard wants to raise awareness for the importance of renewable energies.

The route in his «Solar Impulse 2» started in the Gulf Emirate Abu Dhabi and continuous to Oman, India, China and the US. From New York, Piccard plans to fly to Southern Europe or Northern Africa – depending on winds over the Atlantic Ocean. By the end of July or beginning of August, he aims to return to the Persian Gulf.

He already went for a world record on March 10th when, with the successful second section of the trip, he passed the Arabian Sea which is the longest distance a solar plane ever covered.

The «Solar Impulse 2» is the first airplane worldwide that can stay in the air for up to five days just with solar energy. Its’ wingspan of 72 meters is even bigger than that of a Jumbojet.
