Thomas von Grünigen – the “5 Premium Speakers Questions”

06. June 2024 – Mandy Weinand

As a journalist and former US correspondent for Swiss Radio and Television – SRF, Thomas von Grünigen always has his finger on the pulse.

He began his journalistic career in the USA at the national broadcaster ABC in 2000, when the dramatic election campaign between Al Gore and George W. Bush was taking place. Later, he also experienced the election of Barack Obama directly on location in New York as editor of the SRF magazine programme Rundschau. And he was there when radicalised supporters of the then incumbent but already voted out President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in January 2021.

His time in the United States has given him extensive first-hand experience and knowledge of the political and social dynamics in the USA. This experience enables him to provide well-founded and up-to-date analyses, which he presents in an exciting and informative way as a speaker or talk guest.

Thomas von Grünigen in an interview:

1. What are the core subjects of your keynote speeches?

Thomas von Grünigen:

My lectures and talks are about US politics and society. Also analyses, insights and my personal experience as a Swiss journalist in the USA.

2. Which audiance or which branch do you reach with your speech?

Thomas von Grünigen:

People interested in international and US politics, leaders and decision makers in politics, business, art, government etc.

3. Are you a PREMIUM SPEAKER? Where do you get your insights from?

Thomas von Grünigen:

I am a long-standing USA expert with extensive first-hand experience, with numerous TV appearances on national television and a correspondingly high profile. I also have many years of experience as a guest panellist and speaker.

4. What will be in the future? Does «time» play an important role in your work?

Thomas von Grünigen:

The US and its role as a global power are constantly evolving. Depending on the outcome of the elections this November, the country may face dramatic changes and turmoil. In view of the instability, it is difficult to predict the future of the deeply divided country. What is clear is that the US will continue to play a key role in global politics. Global interest in this country will remain extremely high. If democracy in the USA comes under serious pressure, this will also have a grave impact on us in Switzerland and the entire world.

5. Tell us your life motto? What do you want to give your listeners to take with them?

Thomas von Grünigen:

The dramatic events in recent US history have shown how fragile the social fabric can be. Only a well-informed public has the ability to assess the threats to freedom and democracy and draw the right conclusions from them. It is therefore important to me to share my in-depth knowledge and experiences.
