Christian Wulff, Federal President a.D .: Top speaker and youngest Federal President of Germany ever

08. October 2019 – Katharina Schlangenotto

On June 19th 2019, the former German Federal President Christian Wulff celebrated his 60th birthday in Hanover with more than 400 former companions and party friends. They honored his merits in speaches and  Christian Wulff listened. At the end of the celebration, he announced some personal “immodest wishes”: One must face the apocalyptics who were currently causing a bad mood in Germany. As a conservative, he asked to distinguish between conservatives and reactionaries. He said: “Unfortunately, there are old men who bring back old things.” In his view, the 2015 refugee reception will certainly be described as a stroke of luck for German history at commemoration ceremonies in 25 years, even though the country was not prepared for it four years ago be. “I wish for this new narrative,” said Wulff and received applause from his audience.

He was the tenth Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany from 2010 until 2012. He was the youngest Federal President ever and also the one with the shortest period of office. Previously, from 2003 to 2010, Christian Wulff was Prime Minister of the State of Lower Saxony.

One might wonder what he is doing now all day. He has to laugh at the question. Boredom is nothing he is afraid of. On the contrary, Christian Wulff is a busy man, but today, he can choose what he likes to do.  Sometimes he hands over prizes, then he speaks in schools, he visits distant countries to hold political talks with ministers and heads of state, he is a guest in state affairs and political discussions and, by the way, also  a lawyer.

In his lectures, Christian Wulff speaks primarily about Europe, democracy or Brexit.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the German Basic Law in May this year, he spoke with the German TV station NDR about the topics that move German society. Christian Wulff is an advocate of democracy and pleads for peaceful coexistence in Germany. He said in the NDR, “We may need to make it clearer that democracy needs democrats – that it needs people who run for their own, who vote, who join, who bring in, with respect and dignity to their counterparts already an entry in the democratic center. This was missing in the Weimar Republic. There were too few who stood for democracy.“

“Democracy – strengthen the cohesion”, that was the motto of his 60th birthday celebration and remains his heart project. Please send your Keynote Speaker request to christian.wulff@premium-speakers.com
