Christian Wulff was born on June 19, 1959, in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, the second child of Rudolf and Dagmar Wulff. He graduates from the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium high school. Christian Wulff became involved early on as a student representative and in the youth associations Schüler Union and Junge Union.

From 1980 to 1986, Christian Wulff studied law with a focus on economics at the University of Osnabrück. In 1987 he passed his legal traineeship examination in Hanover, followed by his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Oldenburg, and passed his assessor’s examination in Hanover in 1990. In 1990 Christian Wulff joins a law firm.

In 1986 Christian Wulff became a member of the Osnabrück City Council for the CDU, and from 1989 to 1994 he was its parliamentary group chairman. Christian Wulff remains a council member until 2001. In 1994, he is elected to the Lower Saxony state parliament. In March of that year, he becomes parliamentary group chairman, and in June, state chairman of his party in Lower Saxony. In 1998, Christian Wulff is elected one of the CDU’s deputy federal chairmen.

Christian Wulff marries Christiane Vogt in 1988, with whom he has a daughter. Annalena is born in 1993. In 2006, after 18 years together, the couple separate amicably. In 2008, Christian Wulff marries Bettina Körner. Together with her he has a son. Linus Florian is born in 2008. Bettina Wulff brings a son, Leander, born in 2003, into the marriage.

Following the 2003 state elections, Christian Wulff is elected Minister President by the members of the Lower Saxony state parliament on March 4 and confirmed in this position on February 26, 2008. He holds the office of Minister President until June 30, 2010, the date of the 14th Federal Assembly. The Federal Assembly elects Christian Wulff as the tenth President of the Federal Republic of Germany. Since then, at his request, his membership of the CDU has been suspended.

Christian Wulff has been patron of the German Multiple Sclerosis Society since 2001. Christian Wulff is Catholic. He holds honorary doctorates from Tongji University in Shanghai, China, and the University of Tokyo-Tsukuba, Japan.

In 2011, Christian Wulff was awarded the Leo Baeck Prize by the Central Council of Jews in Germany. In the same year, he was awarded the Medal of Honor of the German Olympic Sports Confederation.

On February 17, 2012, Christian Wulff resigned from his office as Federal President.
