Paul Niel: Technology and Finance in New York, London and Hong Kong

The life story of the former financial expert reads like an adventure novel. It is a fascinating journey with various stages that began with a degree in statistics at the University of Vienna, took him temporarily into the world of technology and finance, and finally turned him into an adventurous explorer.

After working in the world of finance for over a decade in New York, London, and finally Hong Kong, among other places, he was seized by his ever-present spirit of discovery and exploratory drive: he traveled to 80 countries and embarked on astonishing expeditions and treks that took him from the deserts of Mongolia to the snow-covered volcanoes of Kamchatka or the perpetual ice of Antarctica. For the crossing of the Atlantic, he chose a sailing boat manned by nothing but strangers.

In 2013, Paul Niel climbed the world’s highest mountain in an incredible 24 hours. He is one of the mountaineers who have conquered all the “Seven Summits,” the seven highest peaks on each of the seven continents.

Giving something back to the world.

He also discovered his love for Asia, living for several years with his wife in Hong Kong. Here, in 2017, the couple initiated the first coasteering expedition around Hong Kong Island, an expedition along Hong Kong’s coastline to raise awareness about coastal pollution. This resulted in the startling documentary “The Loop.”

Because the charismatic adventurer is not only concerned with personal borderline experiences, he initiated the Education Explorers project back in 2015 to provide girls in India with access to education together with the Indian charity “Educate Girls”. Together with a team from Hong Kong and Chile, he crossed India in an autorickshaw and collected more than HKD 500,000 in donations.

He adapted his journey into a powerful documentary that won the Award of Excellence at the 2018 Hollywood Independent International Documentary Festival.

In his lectures, Paul Niel reports on his travels, expeditions and intensive experiences. He wants to inspire as many people and companies as possible to develop a positive and courageous way of thinking and to consciously shape life and work.

With special assignments from ESA and NASA to conduct testings in the lava caves of the Azores, scenario thinking for cyber attacks and data accidents, today Paul Niel is one of the few people in the world who can learn from the future and demonstrate this through tests as well as vivid scenarios.
