Carlo Schmid grew up in Kloten (canton of Zurich) as an aviation enthusiast. In 2006 he completed his training as a bank clerk at the Cantonal Bank of Zurich and obtained a vocational diploma. Simultaneously, he trained as a glider pilot and began engine flight instruction in 2007. After graduating in 2009, Carlo participated in a bank promotional program before founding RTW GmbH in 2011.
As director and pilot he flew a small plane solo around the world as part of RTW2012.
This earned him a world record, officially recognized by the Guinness Book, as the youngest pilot ever to accomplish that feat. In addition, he raised 50,000 Swiss francs for UNICEF with the project. The funds were used to help disadvantaged children in India.
Since 2013, Carlo Schmid has been studying business administration and international business at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). His master studies he will complete in the summer of 2018. In addition to his studies he worked for several years at Synpulse Management Consulting with projects in Barcelona, Madrid, Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt and Singapore.
He also founded the Live Your Dream Foundation to support young people in their professional and personal dream projects. In addition he founded the first international aircraft sharing platform Simplifly.
