Alain Sutter was born in Bern in January 1968. He began his international football career at the age of 17.

He played for Grasshopper Club Zurich, Young Boys Bern, FC Nuremberg, FC Bayern Munich and SC Freiburg. After 96 Bundesliga games and 11 goals, he moved to the USA at the end of his football career and ended his career with Dallas Burn.

After a few months in the National League A, he made his debut for the Swiss national team. He played 62 times for Switzerland. He describes the 1994 World Cup in the USA as the highlight of his career.

Alain Sutter was Head of Sport at FC St. Gallen for six years until the beginning of January 2024.

He worked as a football expert for Swiss television, has published a book entitled “Stressfrei Glücklich Sein”, gives lectures and supports people as a potential development coach. He also uses his name to support social projects and is committed to promoting youth development in Switzerland.

As a Laureus Switzerland Ambassador, he supports social projects such as Bunt Kickt Gut, Blind Spot and MYSA together with other athletes in Switzerland and abroad. The promotion of young people is particularly close to his heart.

He is on the awards committee of the Young Kicker Foundation. This is a Credit Suisse foundation that supports youth football in Switzerland in order to create optimal conditions for finding and promoting young talent.
