Alain Sutter was born in January 1968 in Bern, Switzerland. He became a professional footballer at the age of 17, and his career led him to Grasshoppers Zurich, Young Boys Bern, FC Nürnberg, FC Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg and Dallas Burn. He made his debut appearance for the Swiss national side just a few months after his first match in the highest Swiss league. Alain Sutter ended his career with 62 caps for the Swiss national team, and describes the 1994 soccer World Championships in the USA as the highlight of his career.

He was working as a football pundit on Swiss television, has published a book, Stressfrei Glücklich Sein (on stress-free happiness), holds lectures and as a coach helps people realise their potential. He also lends his name to support social projects and is involved in youth development and promotion schemes in Switzerland.

As an ambassador for the Laureus Foundation Switzerland, Sutter supports together with other Swiss athletes and sportspeople social projects at home and abroad such as Bunt Kickt Gut, Blind Spot or MYSA. He is particularly passionate about youth promotion in sport and is a member of the grants committee of the Young Kicker Foundation – a Credit Suisse foundation which supports youth football in Switzerland in order to create optimum conditions for discovering and nurturing young talent.
