About Daniel Koch

From 1997, he worked as a medical officer at ICRC headquarters in Geneva, where he was responsible for medical programs in Africa. In 1996/97, Koch supplemented his education with postgraduate studies at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore USA, from which he graduated with a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH). From 2002 to 2020, he worked for the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) in various departments.

He was a member of the task force against the 2002/2003 SARS pandemic and the H5N1 avian influenza. Until 2006 he was head of the section “Vaccinations”. From 2006 to 2008, he headed the “Pandemic Preparedness” section. Daniel Koch gained Switzerland-wide notoriety in spring 2020 during the global COVID 19 pandemic due to his presence in the Swiss media as head of the Communicable Diseases Section at the FOPH.
