Gordon Herbert was the national coach of the German national basketball team and coached the team to its first ever world title at the 2023 FIBA World Championship in Japan & Philippines.
On their way to gold, the German basketball team sensationally won 113:111 against the NBA stars from the USA in the semi-finals. In the World Cup final, Gordon Herbert and the German “Dream Team” were crowned unbeaten basketball world champions.
As head coach of FC Bayern Munich Basketball, Gordon Herbert and his team became German champions in 2025. Starting in the summer of 2026, Gordon Herbert will become head coach of the Canadian men’s national team. Herbert, who hails from Penticton, British Columbia, will prepare the Canadian basketball team for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Who is Gordon Herbert?
Gordon Herbert (born February 16, 1959, in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada) is a Canadian-Finnish basketball coach and former player. Until mid-December 2025, he was head coach of FC Bayern Munich in the Basketball Bundesliga and the EuroLeague.
Herbert began his playing career in Finland, where he played professional basketball for twelve years. After retiring in 1994, he started his coaching career in Finland and later coached teams in Germany, France, Greece, and Canada. With the Skyliners Frankfurt, he won the German championship in 2004 and the FIBA Europe Cup in 2016.
From 2021 to 2024, Herbert was the head coach of the German national basketball team, leading them to a bronze medal at the 2022 European Championship and the World Championship title in 2023. After the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he stepped down as national coach and took over as head coach of FC Bayern Munich.
