Prof. Mirko Kovač is one of the world’s leading experts in robotics, bio-inspired drones and sustainable future technologies.
As Founding Director of the Competence Centre for Sustainability Robotics (CCSR) and Director of the Laboratory of Sustainability Robotics, jointly appointed at Empa in Zurich and EPFL in Lausanne, he develops robotic systems designed to protect, monitor and maintain nature, people and infrastructure in entirely new ways.
His work combines cutting-edge technology with real-world impact. Mirko Kovač develops drones and autonomous systems inspired by nature – from insects and birds to other biological role models – and applies them to environmental monitoring, nature protection, infrastructure inspection and repair. In doing so, he is shaping a new field: Sustainability Robotics – robotics designed to contribute to a more sustainable world.
