Ueli Maurer, former Federal Councillor & Federal President
Ueli Maurer was a member of the Federal Council from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2022, first as head of the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) (2009-2015) and then as head of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) (2016-2022). He was President of the Swiss Confederation in 2013 and 2019.

Ueli Maurer completed his compulsory education and secondary school in Hinwil. He completed a commercial apprenticeship and then obtained a federal accountancy diploma. From 1994 to 2008, he was managing director of the Zurich Farmers’ Association. Until the end of 2008, he was president of the Association of Swiss Vegetable Producers and the Swiss Machinery Ring. At one time he was on the board of directors of Fenaco.
Since the beginning of 2023, Ueli Maurer has been one of five independent members of the Ethics Commission of the International Olympic Committee IOC, succeeding former Federal Councilor Samuel Schmid. In the same year, he became a member of the Board of Trustees of the Limmat Foundation; from 2002 to 2008, he was already a member of the Foundation’s Patronage Committee.
Ueli Maurer is married and has six children. In his free time, he enjoys cycling or helping his son in Canada with farming on his own farm.
