From November 2017 to January 2021, Edward McMullen served as the United States Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. During this time, he built the strongest bilateral relations to date between the United States and Switzerland

As Ambassador, he primarily focused on foreign direct investment (FDI) and met with more than 300 CEOs and board members in Switzerland and Liechtenstein to strengthen relationships and foster a positive environment for economic growth. Thanks to his leadership in this area, Switzerland rose from being the eighth-largest to the sixth-largest source of foreign direct investment in the United States.

Edward McMullen is a frequent attendee of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

After completing his public service, Edward McMullen now works as a Senior Policy Advisor at Adams and Reese LLP. He is also a partner in a private equity firm based in London, a board member of a Paris-based communications company, and serves on the North American boards of several Swiss companies. In these roles, he continues to focus on building and maintaining relationships with investors and corporate leaders in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and across Europe.

Prior to his time as Ambassador, McMullen was the president of a state-level think tank and assisted the founding president of the Heritage Foundation during the Reagan Administration in Washington, D.C. He then founded and led Public Affairs, a public relations and advertising firm based in South Carolina, specializing in government affairs, campaigns, advertising, public relations, data analytics, and polling.

Throughout his career, Edward McMullen managed clients, including Fortune-25 companies, across industries such as aerospace, high tech, data analytics, pharmaceuticals, finance, and biotechnology.

Edward McMullen has served as an advisor in various national presidential as well as statewide political campaigns in Virginia and South Carolina. He worked on the campaign teams of McCain, Romney, and Trump, and supported leading members of Congress, including U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, with his strategic insights and expertise.

Furthermore, Edward McMullen was a member of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, chaired the South Carolina Endowed Chairs Research Centers Board for two terms, and was appointed by several political leaders to state tax committees. Additionally, he was a board member of the South Carolina Competitiveness Council and participated in a working group on nuclear energy.

Edward McMullen is a board member of the Swiss American Foundation and a trustee of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

For his contributions, Edward McMullen was honored with “The Order of the Palmetto,” the highest award given by the State of South Carolina, by Governor David Beasley. Outside of his professional career, he enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his hobbies. He is an avid hunter, fly fisherman, and enthusiastic tennis player.
