Jess de Jesus de Pinho Pinhal is a research associate in philosophy at the Technical University of Berlin. She researches the ethics and politics of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer technologies. Her background in computer science and philosophy enables her to think deeply about the new anthropological changes brought about by AI and other emerging technologies.

She obtained an MSC in Physics and Computer Science from Telecom Physique Strasbourg in 2012, a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Nice in 2015 and an MBA from ESCP Europe Business School in 2017. Previously, she worked as an engineer at Amadeus, as a business and innovation consultant for Hannover Re and early-stage start-ups, and as an entrepreneur in residence for a venture capital firm. Her research focuses on (artificial) intelligence, ethics and, more broadly, human-machine relationships.

In 2020, they founded the Berlin Ethics Lab, a platform to address societal challenges through AI together with academics, activists and companies. In 2022, they led a research residency at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (University of Cambridge) to explore the scalability and decentralisation of tech applications and their global impact on human society.

Jess joined the Brains of Berlin in September 2022. She is a Brain City ambassador for Berlin and wants to inspire other young talents from all over the world to come to Berlin as a city of science.
