War has been waged for all sorts of reasons throughout the history of humanity. These reasons are diverse and vary greatly. Whether it has been over raw materials, on account of differing ideologies or purely out of a thirst for power – there have always been grounds for war and this will probably always be the case for a long time to come. By implication, the question of course arises as to how it is possible to ensure that people can live together in peace, despite having different interests. The fact that war may well be a poor solution is shown by countless examples from the history books.
