Sustainability / Environment
Although almost everyone has in the meantime understood that the resources of our planet are finite, the topic of Environment and Sustainability is still as hotly debated as ever. It is often the case that there seems to be a conflict between environmental protection and nature conservation on the one hand and the maximisation of profits on the other. Should we protect an area of water that has already been over-fished or should we allow fishing to continue there? In the short term, the protection of the environment in this area will mean a drop in profits for fishing companies. Yet if you widen your approach somewhat and consider things from a mid-term or long-term perspective, then the case is no longer so clear-cut. At the end of the day, we still want to be able to catch fish here in fifteen years’ time. In this case, it will actually pay off from an economic point of view to protect the fish stocks now. Our keynote speakers on the topic of Environment and Sustainability look forward to sharing their many years of experience with you – in particular on the interplay between the maximisation of profits and environmental protection, as well as on many other topics!
